Evidence-Based Asthma Remediation and Prevention

As part of the CalAIM initiative, CCAC is a contracted provider with Medi-Cal Managed Care Plans to provide the Asthma Remediation (AR) and Asthma Preventive Services (APS) benefits in 13 counties. The AR benefit helps eligible Medi-Cal members reduce asthma triggers in their home. It works alongside the APS benefit, which includes asthma self-management education and home environmental assessments.

CCAC’s Asthma Program began in 2011 with in-home visits to help low-income families reduce indoor asthma triggers and manage their asthma more effectively. Over the past decade, the program has evolved with advancements in technology and treatment, leading to the development of the Comprehensive Asthma Remediation and Education Services (CARES) — one of the nation’s leading in-home asthma prevention and education programs focused on improving outcomes through cost-effective, high-impact care.

In 2021, CCAC received the US EPA’s National Environmental Leadership Award in Asthma Management.
