Evaluation of Exposure Results Report Study

Impact of Individual Results on Study Participants

ccac-divider

This study is a collaboration with UC Merced, funded by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), to better understand participants’ experience receiving results from previous biomonitoring and environmental exposure study (BiomSPHERE) conducted by CCAC,UC Merced and UC Berkeley. The EARS project aims to learn about participants’ responses to their individual study results, including levels of air pollutant metabolites and oxidative stress markers in their and their child’s urine samples, and identify best practices for providing individual study results and addressing participant concerns. Forty-six of the 64 houses that participated in the BiomSPHERE study completed a survey over the phone to obtain feedback about the results return process. Subsequently, 25 participants were invited to participate in one-on-one in-person interviews to discuss their results packet. CCAC is currently working on conducting focus groups where participants will have an opportunity to discuss their experiences with each other and provide further feedback on how the results return process can be improved.
